ABOUT THE COLLEGE
Besides the unique distinction as the FIRST AUTONOMOUS COLLEGE in Theni District, Jayarai Annapackiam College for women enjoys the prestigious status of First Grade College, among the colleges affliated to Mother Teresa Women’s University, Kodaikanal. In recognition of its three and a half decades long peerless pioneering service in imparting Quality Education to the under privileged rural young women, the college was crowned with ‘A’ GRADE in the Re-Accreditation by the NAAC in 2008. The college is a Minority Institution run by the sisters of St. Anne of Tiruchirapalli. It is located 2k.m. away from the west of Periyakulam on the Theni Road, on a Sylvan hillock, Mt. St. Anne, nestling in lush green, facing the imposing Kodaikannal Hills.
The College Campus is endowed with an atmosphere of serenity and quietude conducive to studies and Research. The college offers 11 U.G. Programmes, 8 P.G. Programmes, 2M.Phil Programmes and a number of certificate, Diploma courses under Choice Based Credit.

As Empowerment of Women engages the attention of every progressive government and right thinking person, it becomes the need of the hour to challenge and transform the ideology and practice of women sub-ordination. In this context, study of such Literature portraying gender discrimination will sensitize the youth about the causes of gender-discrimination, its evil effects and inspire them to undertake socially-relevant research activities to counter the gender ideologies and contribute towards reducing gender inequalities and establishing a just and equitable society.

• Traditional concept of women in Society
• Position and status of women at home and in society
• Portrayal of self-sacrificing women and mothers; glorifying certain virtues as womanly virtues in literature-subtle ways of suppressing women development and progress
• Dehumanization of women and denial of their human rights in the name of gender
• Issues and problems of gender discrimination in post-colonial literature.
MAJOR OBJECTIVE:
To bring about an attitudinal Changes in the young minds about women and Promote Research on gender-related issues and recommend their Research finding to the Government for policy making towards elimination of gender discrimination at all levels.
ABOUT THE VENUE
Periyakulam, the Mango City is situated 80 k.m. west of Madurai; about 60 k.m from Dindigul; 64 k.m. from Kodaikanal and 15 k.m. from Theni. The town is well-connected with Luxury-Deluxe Bus Services from Chennai and Bangalore.
CALL FOR PAPERS
Papers on related themes are invited for presentation. The abstract and full length paper typed in Ms-word Times New Roman font size 12 with 1.5 line space along with a soft copy on a CD ROM Diskette should reach the convener on or before 22nd July, 2009 either by post or by e-mail.
